In a Zen state-of-mind

About Me

My photo
In what is often considered a very complicated world, I lead a pretty simple life - purposely so. Somewhere in the pockets of its pants, I hope to make a positive difference with my actions and the good intentions which fuel them.
Welcome to my place in cyberspace. I created this blog as a forum for those near and far. I apologize for its impersonal nature, but in this quintessential, modern-day world rife with ironic technology, this forum seems to be a viable, (though hardly ideal), alternative for some form of communication when time factors conflict. As you kick back here, I hope you enjoy your visit; but keep in mind that no progression in technology can ever replace my yearnings for a more personal exhange. In the meantime, let's toast to you and your family's health, hope, and happiness. Thanks for letting me share with you.

Event Message from the Hosts:
[This special golf tournament arranged in Dean's honor to benefit The Cancer Research Institute (CRI), http://www.cancerresearch.org/, and families in need who have lost a loved one] is for anyone who can’t golf, does not want to golf or simply would rather donate in another way. We will need many volunteers to help make this a successful event. Understand...you can also volunteer and play as many of us are.We will be using a two-committee approach with each committee being responsible for many different elements in the planning process. Each committee will focus on elements that are inter-related. Simply put 1 group will handle the money; the other handles the event itself. The Sales Committee: Team sales and registration - Advertising - Goody bags - T-shirts - Hole sponsors - Silent Auction Items - Food & Beverage donations - Raffle items - Event Sponsors The Event Committee: Program planning – Contracts with suppliers – Celebrities – Cleanup – Volunteers – Hole marshals – Signage & Placement – Goody bag prep – Hosting Celebrities – Acquisition of trophy’s – Publicity – Speakers – Rental Equipment – Side Bar events – Dinner/Lunch – Food/Bev - Liaison with course – paying bills The idea is to make this event a successful one for many, many years to come with our children carrying on the tradition. The passing of Dean Stroh was a sad day but if we can look back on it many years from now and see how it sparked a wonderful fundraising tradition that helps many families and donates to a worthy cause, I’m sure many of us would be very proud of that. The vision we have calls for the event not only to pay for itself but also to provide proceeds to the charity of choice and to a family of need who lost a loved one. We lost a great man with the passing of Dean Stroh but unfortunately we will all lose loved ones in the years to come and in many cases those families will be in need of some kind of financial assistance. If we do this right, we can accomplish all of this.

For more information, to participate and RSVP, or get involved in some other capacity, please feel welcome to communicate with the hosts of the event by using the contact information above.

Thank You

We just wanted to take a moment to thank all the friends and family members who joined us yesterday to share in our grief and to show your emotional support during this tremendously sad time. Our gratitude extends to all those from afar who were unable to be there physically, but showed their sympathy through flowers, gift baskets, and very caring and loving messages. Like many others, we believe Dean has joined the Angels in Heaven and we also believe Pops saw the outpouring of love and support displayed yesterday in his honor. Thank you so very much for coming out to share your condolences with the Stroh family for their loss of beloved Dean. It means so very much to all of us that you did.

Most lovingly,
Marla and Dina

Calling All Art Enthusiasts...

Dear family friend Ellie's stepson, Robert "Bob-E" Snell, is also a good friend of ours and someone you deserve to know. He is truly an unique and gifted artist. Challenging economic times are creating some very interesting vicissitudes, but if you are an art enthusiast by any measure, or if you're simply in the market for something truly remarkable, consider supporting our talented friend, Robert J. Snell, by visiting Bob-E's website, http://www.robertsnellart.com/. It is important to note that his website displays only some of his offerings. His prolific works may also be seen and purchased at numerous local art shows and galleries. Dates of those showings are often listed at his website. Thanks in advance for showing your interest in supporting the art work of this truly talented dude.
Thanks for stopping by our blogs and website,

Marla

Passion for People Accessing Health Care

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/print/?id=234660

It's official: Contents in today's mail from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) revealed successful test results for the CMA (AAMA) Certification Exam that Marla sat for last June for the CMA designation, the gold standard of the medical assisting certification. It was interesting to read about the percentile ranks for the total examination and the three major content areas of the exam (i.e. General, Administrative, and Clinical) because they indicate the percentage of the reference group candidates who obtained scores lower than Mar's, reinforcing a unique sense of accomplishment that demonstrates so well, the fruits of her labor. For example, in the General content area, Mar's percentile rank based on reference group was 99; this means that 99% of the reference group candidates had scores lower than her on the General items. Similarly, Mar's percentile rank for the Clinical content was 98; this means that 98% of the reference group candidates had scores lower than hers on clinical items. Lastly, Mar's percentile rank for the Administrative content was 93; consequently, 93% of the reference group candidates had scores lower than hers in that area. So all in all, Mar's total examination percentile rank was 99. Thus overall, 99% of the reference group candidates had scores lower than Mar'sl. On behalf of all those who know and love Mar, we thank you for participating in her evolution and giving her the strength to reach for the stars!

Mar Got Published!!!

Hi everyone. I just want to say that some good things come in small packages. One such package was in my mail today. I finally received my author's copy of what you see to your left...Volume 19 of the 2007 edition of The Harper Anthology, which holds MY VERY FIRST PUBLISHED PIECE...well, technically, it's my second, but comparatively speaking, the first was so small in content that it kind of doesn't count. And hey, y'all know I'm not a braggart. I am only boasting because this is a childhood-dream come true for me. In actuality, my modesty allows me to more enjoy the happenings and accomplishments of others over myself. But this happenstance is different. This is one achievement I am very proud of and unashamed to share. Unfortunately, there is no link I can paste for an online perusal. When more hardcopies for the public become available, I will snatch them up shamelessly for scrutiny. Gratefully yours, Mar;-)

Getting Published

Since Mar was a kid, she dreamt of writing something worthy enough to be published someday; and after all this time, that day has arrived. Sure, she had some extremely small poem published that she wrote several years ago, but in her eyes, it didn't really count. Anyway, she just got word that it's going to print some time around Thanksgiving. Small potatoes or otherwise, it's pretty exciting stuff for us and we just wanted to share our joy. If you're interested in reading the piece once it's published, let us know, and we'll get you a copy (pro bono of course), or direct you to a online resource for easy access.
